CMA CGM Group’s new mega-ship, CMA CGM Alexander von Humboldt, was christened in Hamburg.
On hand were the ship’s godmother, Dr. Dorothee Stapelfeldt, second mayor of Hamburg, other government officials, and Jacques R. Saadé, CMA CGM Group’s chairman and CEO.
The ship, which was built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in South Korea, is a sister to the CMA CGM Marco Polo and CMA CGM Jules Verne. The 16,000-TEU vessel is 396 meters long and 54 meters wide, with a draft of 16 meters. It is in service on the ocean carrier’s French Asia Line (FAL1), as are its sisters.
After calling Hamburg, the mega-ship proceeded to Bremerhaven. It will load and unload a total of 4,958 20-foot-equivalent unit containers en route to Rotterdam.
