THE container arm of Singapore-based NOL Group, APL, has taken its fifth of twelve 9,200 TEU ships built by DSME shipyard (Daewoo) which was ordered in July 2010 following its latest delivery this summer of the APL Phoenix as the 8,400-TEU fleet is increased to 9,200 TEU.
APL is to deploy the vessel, the APL Savannah, on its transpacific SAX service, operated within the New World Alliance framework to replace 6,966-TEU APL Washington which will join the Far East-USWC Mexico PS-2 service to boost average capacity to 8,000-9,200 TEU from 6,300-6,900 TEU.
