Kolkata-Singapore/Klang lines to levy US$120/TEU surcharge November 1

FEEDER operators serving Singapore and Port Klang from Kolkata/Haldia have announced a winter surcharge ranging from US$110 to $120 per TEU from November 1, reports Chennai's Hindu daily. These lines include Mediterranean Shipping Co, CMA CGM, Bengal Tiger Line, X-press Container Line, Samudera Shipping, Advanced Container Line, Far Shipping, Hartman, PACC Container Line, Hub Line and OEL, all members of Singapore-based Calcutta Feeder Operators (Calfo). The Hindu also reported that feeder operators serving Colombo are expected to announce a similar increase soon, according to shipping industry sources. "But then, the Colombo trade, served by eight feeder vessels, is by and large one-way trade, mostly exports," said a source. In the past six months, low volumes have induced a half dozen feeder vessels to withdraw from the Kolkata/Haldia-Singapore/Port Klang sector, and, more might follow, said the report.   Asian Shipper News
