MOL has announced the launch of its first training vessel, the Spirit of MOL, at the Japanese shipyard of Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Company in Fukuyama in Hiroshima Prefecture.
The Japanese transportation and logistics group plans to start practical training aboard the vessel in mid-July as part of the company's efforts to reinforce the safety of vessel operations.
The Spirit of MOL has an overall length of 106 metres, draft of 5.8 metres, gross tonnage of 4,878 tons, and flies the Panama flag.
The vessel is equipped with a special training bridge on a deck above the actual bridge. Ten full-time instructors will provide education and practical training to 180 cadets per session.
MOL cadets of the same level of training from different nations, including the Philippines, India, Russia, Vietnam, China and Indonesia, will train onboard together.
The training vessel is scheduled to sail out to Manila, with Filipino and Russian cadets onboard as the first cadets. Their training voyage, from the Philippines to India, begins on July 16. The first shipboard training will last four to six months, and is mainly for cadets who do not have practical seagoing experience.
