PIL is expected to see a number of changes to its services come into effect this month.s
Some of these services are operated with other shipping lines, as well as separately by PIL, as the shipping company has recently taken delivery of three 1,500- 1,700-TEU containerships on charter hire, reports AXS-Alphaliner News.
PIL is commencing a China-Straits-Thailand (CST) service which uses four ships of 1,550 TEU, taken from the MEX service. The port rotation for the CST is: Shanghai, Ningbo, Singapore, Port Kelang, Penang, Singapore, Pasir Gudang, Laem Chabang, Hong Kong, Ningbo, Qingdao, Shanghai.
PIL's Singapore-East Africa (EAS) service is adding Shanghai and Ningbo to the port rotation. The service is also being upgraded to become a weekly fixed-day service, with three extra ships being added to bring the number of vessels to seven 1,420-TEU units. Other ports in the rotation include: Singapore, Colombo, Port Louis, Reunion, Toamasina, Mombasa and Dar-es-Salaam.
The shipping line is terminating its Far East-Middle East Express (MEX) service in which "K" Line has bought slots by revising the port of calls for the China-Straits-Gulf (CSG) service that is jointly operated with "K" Line. Mundra has been added to the CSG's port rotation and eastbound the calls at Port Kelang and Laem Chabang have been dropped. Larger ships of 2,570-TEU are also being introduced to this service.
For the trade between the Indian Ocean and Africa, PIL together with MOL and Laurel Navigation-GSL are offering the new MRX and AMI joint services.
The Far East-South Africa service called ASA is now up and running, operated jointly by PIL, MISC and "K" Line, with CSAV buying slots.
