Massachusetts-based Cape Air to expand service into the midwest
Aviation leaders from around Indiana will announce a new non-stop intrastate airline service is returning to the Hoosier State on Monday. Beginning November 13, Cape Air will launch daily flights between Indianapolis and both Evansville and South Bend.
Initially, Cape Air will offer daily flights to and from each city during the business week and three daily weekend Saturdays and Sundays on a nine-seat Cessna 402 twin-engine aircraft. The flights are timed to offer same-plane, one-stop service between Evansville and South Bend four times each weekday. Moreover, Cape Air’s service is timed to connect to flights on other major airline partners in Indianapolis, such as Continental, Delta, and Northwest.
Non-stop flights between these Indiana cities will significantly decrease long driving times for business people, state officials, and others who need to get from the state capital to these cities in the southern and northern areas in Indiana. The flight time from Indianapolis International Airport (IND) to Evansville Regional Airport (EFF) is one hour; the flight from IND to South Bend Regional Airport (SBN) is one hour, two minutes.
“We support and are excited about this new air service connecting Evansville and South Bend to Indianapolis,” said John J. Kish, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. An agreement between the Authority and Cape Air is pending board approval.
