The Israeli government is to pay 80 per cent of security costs for the country's airlines, up from 50 per cent previously and is to consider opening up selected international routes to Israeli airlines other than El Al. El Al claims its heavy security costs make it harder for it to compete with foreign carriers, so the 30 per cent additional funding should ease cost/pricing differentials.
