DHL expands in Saudi Arabia and Russia

5/17/2008 9:37:18 AM

DHL will spend more than 100 million Saudi Riyals this year on infrastructure development across Saudi Arabia. DHL has also opened a new terminal near St. Petersburg.

DHL Express’s expansion in Saudi Arabia includes the opening of fifteen new branches, bringing the total number of branches to more than fifty across The Kingdom.

DHL has been operating in Saudi Arabia since 1976.

The new branches will be rolled out in important population centres across Saudi Arabia during the next eight months. The exact locations will be announced in the near future.

DHL Express indicated that other developments in the future will include investment in technology, transport and logistics equipment, and further infrastructure.

DHL has also opened a new terminal in Russia. Located near Pulkovo (St. Petersburg), the facility will serve as a central sorting, processing and transit facility for international and domestic shipments for St. Petersburg and the northwest region – DHL’s second biggest market in the CIS.

The location was selected due to its proximity to St. Petersburg's Pulkovo airport (five minutes) and the Moscow-St. Petersburg highway (three minutes).

The new terminal occupies 13,000 m2, of which 9,500 m2 are dedicated for operations and 3,500 m2 for office facilities. The terminal handles and sorts goods for DHL customers in St. Petersburg and other important cities such as Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Syktyvkar and Velikiy Novgorod.

The entire facility is capable of handling 500 tonnes of material in its normal daily operating window.

In addition to the terminal and the office facilities, DHL is opening a new Service Point in Pulkovo to add to its existing network.
