Maersk increases bunker charges

7/19/2008 9:47:28 AM

Maersk Lines has increased its Bunker Adjustment Factor charge in light of increasing fuel surcharges, the National Business Review reported.

On New Zealand-US services the price has been raised from US$438 per TEU to $844, and on routes to Asia and Europe it has been raised from $350 to $675 per TEU.

Maersk ships call at all of New Zealand's container ports except Invercargill.

Fuel costs have increased by 230 percent since 2004 and are now approximately 48 percent of a vessel's operating costs compared with 20 percent a year ago.
