Southwest China's Guangxi Autonomous Region plans to invest CNY300 billion (US$43.7 billion) on traffic infrastructure in the next five years to build itself as a hub for the traffic network connecting China and ASEAN countries, Xinhua reported.
According to governor of Guangxi Ma Biao, the region is going to newly build or upgrade a total of 2,180 kilometres' railway. New lines will total to 1,600 kilometres.
The region will also build 1,800 kilometres' new expressways. By 2012, the region will have 100,000 kilometres road and 3,600 kilometres expressway in use.
On the aspect of water transport, Guangxi will raise its cargo handling capacity by 120 million tonnes. By 2012, the region's throughput capacity will reach 230 million tonnes.
Guangxi will also expand the Nanning Airport, which is in its capital city Nanning, into a hub for air transport between China and Asean countries, while the Guilin Airport will be expanded into a tourist hub that can accommodate Airbus 380 aircrafts.
