Australia’s Virgin Blue says it intends to cut more domestic services in the new financial year (from July).
The airline had already announced a 2.4 per cent reduction in seat mile capacity, and now says it will make further cuts as demand within the air travel industry remains sluggish.
"We are looking at further capacity cuts to take us somewhere around (negative) 5.5 per cent," said ceo Brett Godfrey.
Virgin Blue already has cut eight per cent of its domestic services and shed close to 400 jobs by removing five Boeing 737 aircraft from service.
