Qantas Freight will launch a new Boeing 767 freighter operation between Australia and New Zealand on June 15th.
According to Stephen Cleary, executive manager of Qantas Freight, the operation would enable the airline to retain wide-body freight capacity on the route following the introduction of its new trans-Tasman passenger schedule.
He said that the Tasman is one of Qantas Freight's most important markets, with express consolidators and perishable exporters in particular relying on wide- body airfreight services.
"For customers in NZ, the service will allow easy through connection with our extensive passenger and freighter fleet into Europe, the US and Asia, including mainland China and Japan," said Cleary, adding that customers in Christchurch will, for the first time, also have access to main deck freighter capacity.
The B767-200 freighter would be wet-leased from Air Transport International (ATI), and would operate overnight four times a week on the Sydney - Auckland - Christchurch - Sydney route.
