Indonesia and Malaysia will in August sign a new airline deal which allows Indonesian carriers to make stopovers in Malaysian cities and increase the number of routes Malaysian airlines can fly into Indonesia, Dow Jones reported.
Herry Bhakti Singayudha, director general for civil aviation at Indonesia's Transport Ministry, said that under the new deal, Indonesian airlines will be allowed to make stopovers in the Malaysian cities of Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kinabalu, while en route to other international destinations.
Flag carrier Malaysian Airline System and budget carrier Air Asia will in turn be allowed to fly extra routes to Indonesia's capital, Jakarta, the resort island of Bali, East Java capital Surabaya and Medan, the capital city of Sumatra, Singayudha.
