European carrier Air France-KLM Cargo is to increase airfreight rates and transfer its two remaining freighters to sister carrier Martinair.
KLM Cargo executive vice-president and AF-KLM Cargo chairman Michael Wisbrun said: "We have been hit hard by the impact of the economic downturn. We are acting swiftly on network redesign, capacity reduction and cost adjustments. Now, our revenues need to be stepped up to stop the bleeding." New pricing was not disclosed.
The AF/KLM/Martinair group now will go into the 2009-10 northern winter season later this month with about 20 per cent less cargo capacity compared with pre-crisis levels and about 40 per cent less full freighter capacity this winter compared with the summer of 2008.
