Taiwan and Japan signed a new air traffic agreement that expands cargo and passenger destinations between the two sides and adds charter flights from October 2010, Dow Jones reported.
When the fourth runway at Japan's Haneda Airport is completed in October, the two sides will begin operating eight charter flights daily.
The agreement will also grant fifth-freedom rights to carriers on both sides. Fifth-freedom rights allow airlines to take passengers or cargo to one destination, where more passengers and cargo can be picked up, and then fly to another destination.
Japanese carriers will be able to carry passengers and cargo from Taiwan to seven destinations in Southeast Asia.
