The air cargo joint venture between DHL and Lufthansa Cargo, Aerologic, said it will start a new service linking Leipzig with Hong Kong via Sharjah.
The six-times-a week service will be operated with a Boeing B777 aircraft. Four days, it will run on a Leipzig/Hong Kong/Sharjah/Leipzig routing, one day it will stop in Sharjah in both directions, and one day it will start and end in Frankfurt instead of Leipzig.
“This Aerologic flight route via the U.A.E. will boost our air network capacity on an increasingly important trade lane,” said John Pearson, chief executive officer of DHL Express Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Asia and Europe have strong trade relations with the Middle East, and China will play an increasingly important role in trade with the U.A.E. In 2009, China emerged as the top trading partner of the U.A.E. with 12.9 percent of total imports into the Emirates originating from China.”
Aerologic took delivery of two B777F aircrafts in December 2009, bringing its fleet to four. The airline expects delivery of four additional B777F aircraft in June, July, September and November this year.
