Bali provincial administration has been preparing a 650-hectare plot of land in Gerokgak village, Buleleng regency to make way for the development of a new international airport, reported the Jakarta Post.
The current 265-hectare Ngurah Rai International Airport in Tuban, Badung regency, is considered too small to accommodate the growing number of domestic and international flights arriving in Bali.
"The administration] has idle land in Buleleng, 90 km north of Denpasar, which is suited for an international airport," said Governor Made Mangku Pastika.
The planned development of an international airport in North Bali regency also aims to reduce the wide economic gap between the south and north parts of the island.
