Cargolux is adding a fifth flight to the trans-Pacific service the freighter operator launched this year, bringing more capacity into Asia markets that are seeing sharp gains in air cargo services.
Cargolux’s new 747-400 flight will operate from Singapore and Hong Kong to Los Angeles and then onto the carrier’s main hub in Luxembourg.
The service joins four other flights Cargolux launched in April out of Hong Kong to Chicago and New York.
The flights come amid a strong recovery in air freight demand this year, particularly exports out of Asia, as carriers restore much of the cargo capacity they pulled out during the economic downturn.
The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines says its member carriers counted 20.3 percent more air freight capacity in July than they operated in the same month last year.
