On October 2nd, at 01:35 a.m., Iberia’s first flight from Madrid to Cordoba left for the second-largest city in Argentina. Iberia will become the first European airline to fly non-stop this route.
It is expected that nearly 70,000 passengers will fly on the route during the first year of operation. With the new flight, Iberia could raise the total number of passengers it carries between Spain and Argentina each year to above 500,000
The opening of this route is expected to bring substantial benefits to Cordoba, Argentina’s second-largest city after the capital, Buenos Aires. It will facilitate business travel, tourism, and reuniting families with members on both sides of the Atlantic. Iberia cargo holds can carry Cordoba’s exports direct to Madrid for distribution throughout Europe.
Argentina is Iberia’s largest growth area in 2010. Currently, the Spanish airline offers 17 return flights between Spain and Argentina.
