American orders 460 aircraft

7/25/2011 10:28:13 AM

American Airlines, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AMR Corporation and the world's fourth-largest airline, has signed contracts with Boeing and Airbus to acquire a total 460 aircraft. The airline has ordered 260 A319s, A320s and A321s, with 130 featuring Airbus's New Engine Option (neo) plus 200 Boeing 737s.

Meanwhile, AMR says it expects to spin off regional carrier American Eagle, the airline that carries passengers from feeder cities through AA hubs. No timeframe was given.
