US carriers to cut capacity

9/22/2011 10:43:40 AM

Possibly signalling similar moves in the Asia-Pacific region, US carriers have said they'll freeze or reverse growth plans for 2012 and beyond, cutting services that typically fly with light loads from schedules in trough periods.

Delta Air Lines will reduce 2012 flying by two to three per cent overall, with its trans Pacific routes among those affected.

United Continental will hold next year's US domestic services at 2011 levels, but may increase international services and Southwest Airlines says it might hold its flights at 2011 levels till 2014.

American Airlines is to cut Q4 2011 flying by 4.5 per cent, half a per cent more than previously planned.
