OOCL puts more big ships on Intra-Asia

10/27/2011 11:19:09 AM

The liner carrier OOCL will be increasing the vessel size it operates on one of its intra-Asia services linking Japan with South China and Thailand, according to ComPair Data.

The carrier’s KTX 2 service has a rotation of Osaka, Kobe, Tokyo, Yokohama, Hong Kong, Laem Chabang, Shekou, Hong Kong, Xiamen, and Osaka. Beginning in late November, the line will switch out all three existing vessels on the service for larger ones. The current average vessel size is 2,742 TEUs, but will increase to 4,562 TEUs, a nearly 67 percent increase.

According to ComPair Data, OOCL’s KTX 1 service, which links Japan with South China, Taiwan, and Singapore, is already operated with 4,500-TEU ships.
