Alitalia resumes its flights between Italy and Libya

11/3/2011 9:35:41 AM

After an 8-month suspension, on 2nd November 2011, Alitalia resumed its flights between Italy and Libya with flight AZ 868, which left the Rome Fiumicino airport at 11.05 a.m. and landed in Tripoli at 2.00 p.m. local time with 100 passengers on board.

Alitalia is the first EU airline to have restarted its operation of commercial (passenger and cargo) flights to and from Libya.

One month ago Alitalia reopened its commercial offices in Tripoli and resumed the operation of its Customer Centre in Libya.

The flight schedule between Rome and Tripoli includes 4 weekly frequencies (on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday) with middle-of-the-day departure times.

Currently flights are operated on the Tripoli Mitiga airport, but in the next few days operations will shift to the Tripoli International airport.

In 2010, on the Rome - Tripoli route, Alitalia transported more than 75,000 passengers.
