CMA CGM Trims Asia-US East Coast Services

CMA CGM will trim its network of all-water services between the Far East and the U.S. Gulf and East Coast at the end of March.

The announcement Monday by the Marseilles-based carrier is part of the ongoing global consolidation of services with other carriers aimed at reducing vessel capacity and shoring up freight rates.

The French carrier said Monday that starting on March 28 it will serve the all-water trade from Asia to the U.S. East Coast with the following three loops:

- The PEX 3 service between Asia and the U.S. Gulf Coast via the Panama Canal will be operated by CMA CGM with 11 vessels with capacities of 5,500 20-foot equivalent units each on the following rotation: Xiamen, Hong Kong, Chiwan, Shanghai, Busan, Punta Manzanillo, Houston, Mobile, Miami, Jacksonville and back to Xiamen.

--The Manhattan Bridge service between Asia and the U.S. East Coast via the Panama Canal will be operated by China Shipping, Evergreen and UASC with nine 4,000-TEU vessels on the following rotation: Shanghai, Xiamen, Yantian, Hong Kong, New York, Norfolk, Savannah and back to Shanghai.

--The Columbus Suez service between Asia and the U.S. East and West Coasts via the Suez Canal will be operated by CMA CGM and Maersk Line with 16 8,100-TEU vessels will remain unchanged with the following rotation: Shanghai, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Yantian, Tanjung Pelapas, Suez Canal, New York, Norfolk, Savannah, Suez Canal, Tanjung Pelapas, Hong Kong, Yantian, Shanghai, Pusan, Seattle, Vancouver, Yokohama and back to Shanghai.
