Japan Airlines will start operating to Helsinki Airport. The airline will operate four times a week to Tokyo Narita starting from March 2013. The new operations will remarkably strengthen Helsinki Airport’s positions as a leading hub in Northern Europe. Helsinki Airport is operated by Finavia.
Japan Airlines’ nonstop service to Helsinki is the company’s first new service between Japan and Europe in 20 years. The service will be delivered with Boeing 787 aircraft. The new B787 Dreamliner will be the first of the new air craft operating to Helsinki.
Helsinki Airport has been growing strongly last ten years in traffic between Europe and Asia. In year 2011 totally 1,63 million passengers (growth 15,4%) travelled via Helsinki Airport to Asia. Japan is the main destination country with over 400 000 passengers (growth 8,1 %). Helsinki is the Europe’s 4th most important airport in the Europe – Japan traffic. Only Frankfurt, Paris and London have more connections between Europe and Japan among the European airports.
