Hanjin Takes Delivery of First 13,000-TEU Ships

3/28/2012 10:34:56 AM

Hanjin Shipping took delivery of the first two of a series of nine 13,100-TEU capacity container ships that it started ordering in June 2011.

The first ship, named Hanjin Sooho for the carrier’s late Chairman Sooho Cho, and the second, Hanjin Asia, were built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea.

The two giants, equipped with fuel-efficient, green engines that can reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, will be deployed in the Asia-Europe trade.

Both 126,000-deadweight-ton vessels are 1,200 feet long, 158 feet wide and 230 feet high. Their top speed is 23.7 knots.

The other seven ships in the series are scheduled for delivery later this year and in 2013.
