Japan plans to streamline customs clearance

1/4/2007 10:34:06 AM

The Japanese government plans to revamp cargo operations at its ports and airports during 2007 in aim to improve trade.

A council named Asian Gateway headed by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, under the slogan "Distribution Big Bang", will start discussions on cutting cargo handling time and costs this month, and will finalize a report by late May.

The first step of the plan is to start allowing importers with actual trade records to clear customs before their freight arrives.
