THE 13,169-TEU Shanghai Express has been delivered to Hapag-Lloyd, the fifth of ten same-size newbuildings from Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and will join G6 Asia-Europe Loop 5, reports Alphaliner.
Four of the ships were new orders while the other six resulted from upgrades of an earlier order of six 8,750 TEUers ordered in 2008. This ship follows the Hong Kong Express delivered in March.
The delivery of the last three units in this series has been deferred from the second half of 2013 into the first half of 2014, due to weak market demand. This spreads the deliveries of these 10 vessels over 21 months.
