PIL launches second Far East-Red Sea loop

5/25/2013 8:32:40 AM

SINGAPORE's Pacific International Lines (PIL) has started a new China-SE Asia-Red Sea (RS 2) weekly service focusing on the lower Red Sea ports and deploying seven ships with capacities of between 2,800 TEU and 4,200 TEU.

The new service turns in seven weeks connecting Ningbo, Guangzhou-Nansha, Shenzhen-Chiwan and Singapore with Djibouti, Aden and Port Sudan. This complements the existing RSS/REX service, run jointly with APL, using ships of 5,000-6,600 TEU, which connects Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Guangzhou-Nansha, Shenzhen-Chiwan, Singapore, Djibouti, Aden, Jeddah, Sokhna and Aqaba, covering both the lower and upper Red Sea, said Alphaliner.

The launch of the RS 2 follows the launch by CMA CGM and Evergreen of a new south east Asia-Lower Red Sea (REX 3/SRS 2) service in April and the upsizing by Maersk of its Horn of Africa service, which also acts as a south east Asia-Lower Red Sea relay service. These relay services offer connections to Singapore, Tanjung Pelepas and Port Kelang.
