Maersk Joins Asia-Europe August Rate Hike Push

7/19/2013 11:23:26 AM

Maersk Line has become the latest carrier to unveil freight rate hikes on the westbound Far East-Europe trades in August.

The Danish carrier said it plans to levy a general rate increase of $300 per 20-foot container and $600 per 40-foot container on all services from Asia, excluding Japan, to north European ports.

Maersk will also implement a GRI of $400 per 20-foot container and $800 per 40-foot and 45-foot high cube dry or reefer container on services from Asia, also excluding Japan, to southern Europe on August 1.

The planned hikes by the market leader are lower than those announced earlier by rival carriers, including Mediterranean Shipping Co., which plans to implement a GRI of $500 per TEU from Asia to north Europe, the east and west Mediterranean, North Africa, Black Sea, the Baltic, the Adriatic and Scandinavia.
