Le Havre Welcomes First Call of Glovis Ro-Ro Ship

11/2/2013 11:23:37 AM

France’s Port of Le Havre has welcomed the maiden call of the Glovis Condor, a roll-on, roll-off vessel owned by Glovis, a South Korean company.

Glovis was originally an automotive logistics company, but recently expanded its business by entering into a tonnage agreement with Hoegh Autoliners. Under the deal, Hoegh Autoliners offers a shipping service in Middle East trade with one vessel per month, and Glovis manages the operations with Marmedsa as the shipping agents. The Glovis Condor arrived at Le Havre’s ro-ro terminal for the first time as part of the service.

The ship was built in 2011 and is 199.10 meters (about 653.22 feet) long with a breadth of 32.36 meters and a draught of 11.21 meters. It is the sister ship of the Glovis Cardinal and the Clovis Cougar, which are also both scheduled to call at Le Havre in the coming month.

The vessel arrived from Gothenburg, Sweden, carrying 297 units on board, although it offloaded and loaded vehicles at Le Havre. The vehicles involved were mostly secondhand trucks bound for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as well as other military vehicles for Saudi Arabia. The vessel’s next stop was Southampton, U.K., followed by Jeddah; Port Sultan Qaboos, Oman; Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates; Kuwait; Dammam, Saudi Arabia; Bahrain; Doha, Qatar; Singapore for bunkering; and Ulsan, South Korea. The transit time to Jeddah is 11 days.
