Pacific International Lines (PIL), Singapore, is to enter the Transpacific trade in March with a fixed-day weekly container service linking the Far East to the US West Coast.
The service, to be operated jointly with Wan Hai Lines (WHL) will commence on March 17, 2007 with a total of five 2,500 TEU ships. Higher capacity vessels will be introduced in the near future.
The service itself is not new, since WHL has operated it independently since mid-2001, providing good transit times and schedule integrity.
PIL will contribute one ship in the joint service, operating with a round voyage of 35 days on the following port rotation: Xiamen > Yantian > Hong Kong > Kaohsiung > Long Beach > Oakland > Xiamen.
PIL planned to incorporate a subsidiary company in the US this month, and has also appointed Norton Lilly with its extensive network and experience in the Far East trade, as its US agent.
