FULL operational control over Turkey's Port of Mersin on the southeast coast has been transferred to Mersin International Port Management (MIP), a joint venture between PSA International and Akfen Holding.
This comes after MIP struck a deal with the Turkish Privatisation Authority and the Turkish National Railways Authority (TCDD) to operate the east Mediterranean Port.
The PSA group is optimistic that together with its partner Akfen Holding it will be able to turn Mersin Port into a major international gateway owing to its location will be able to tap the booming growth in trade between and within Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
"For PSA, our investment in MIP is our third single largest investment outside of Singapore, and is testament to our strong confidence in Turkey... that the free, open and deregulated market environment which has sustained the steady and strong economic environment of recent years will continue," said PSA International CEO Eddie Teh.
PSA International currently operates a network of 25 ports worldwide.
