The Grand Alliance’s vessel at Tan Cang -Cai Mep deep-sea terminal (TCCT)

On January 9th 2010, the celebration of welcoming the maiden voyage of the Grand Alliance’s vessel was organized solemnly at Tan Cang -Cai Mep-the M.V OOCL America of OOCL (Hong Kong). This is the first vessel of the direct service between southern Vietnam and the East Coast of the United States namely the Asia East Coast Express (AEX). The service rotation will be Cái Mép -Laem Chabang – SingaporeColomboCagliariHalifax -New YorkSavannahNorfolk -New YorkHalifax -Cagliari, Jeddah – Colombo -Singapore -Cái Mép. The Grand Alliance (OOCL, Hapag Lloyd, and NYK) is the third Alliance having the vessel call at TCCT. The New World Alliance (APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine and MOL) has deployed their service at TCCT since early of June 2009 and CKYH (Cosco, K’Line, Yang Ming, and Hanjin) started their service at TCCT in July 2009. These Alliances have the direct services from Vietnam to the U.S West Coast and the new launching service of Grand Alliance is the first one from TCCT to the U.S East Coast.

 

TCCT has a total area of 20,5 hectares with the 380m-berth and the draft at berth of 15.8 meters. TCCT is able to accommodate the vessel of  110,000 DWT and LOA of 360m. The TCCT has been equipped with  3 twin-lifting  Post -Panamax  quayside gantry cranes with the lifting capacity of 65 tons, 10 RTGs 6+1 with the lifting capacity of 40 tons and the height of 5 stacking, 20 prime movers and  the world standard terminal operation and management  systems, 3 reach stackers. The designed capacity of TCCT is 650,000,000 Teus/ year. After 7 months operational, TCCT has accommodated and dispatched 58 voyages safely and efficiently reaching the volume of  100,285 teus through the terminal. The New World Alliance and CHYK highly appreciate the terminal service quality. Especially, the barging of the inbound and outbound containers between Cambodia, Tan Cang, Cat Lai and ICDs  and Tan Cang-Cai Mep was arranged scientifically, properly to ensure the time for the vessel release. The average productivity was 75 moves/ hour.

 

Up to the present time, more than 80% of the inbound and outbound containers are barged between Ho Chi Minh city and Cai Mep. Saigon Newport (SNP-the parent company of TCCT) has a fleet of 15 barges with the total capacity of over 750 Teus and a good connectivity with  Tan Cang, Cat Lai, ICDs in Ho Chi Minh city, Song Than ICD in Binh Duong and Long Binh ICD in Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province and in the coming time, the joint venture of Saigon Newport with Sun Cypress Shipping Co,., Ltd shall deploy the barging route  among Cambodia, the Mekong Delta area, Cat Lai, ICDs in HCM city and Tan Cang-Cai Mep with the purpose  to support logistics system of SNP and make it operate efficiently and properly to serve the delivery and receipt of the cargo in Ho Chi Minh city, Dong Nai, Binh Duong province and Mekong Delta. Saigon Newport company is also promptly continuing  the construction of phase 2 including 590metres of berth and 40 hectares of CY so that the joint venture of Saigon Newport, Hanjin Shipping,  Mitsui O.S.K Lines and Wanhai Lines namely the Tan Cang-Cai Mep international terminal ( TCIT) will be able to start the operation of Tan Cang-Cai Mep -phase II in the early of 2011
