A consortium of four carriers plan to start a new weekly service between Northern Europe and the east coast of South America in March.
United Arab Shipping Co. said it is teaming up with and Hanjin Shipping, Cosco and CCNI to start the Europe to South America Express Service, which UASC is calling SAM1. The other carriers may give it a different designation.
The SAM1 Service will deploy six vessels, each with a capacity of 2,500 20-foot equivalent container units. UASC and Hanjin will deploy two vessels each while COSCO and CCNI will deploy one vessel each.
The new Europe to South America Express Service will run on a weekly basis with the following port rotation: Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp, Algeciras, Rio de Janeiro, Santos, Itajai, Santos, Salvador, Algeciras and Rotterdam.
A call at Paranagua is planned for a later stage.
UASC said the northbound and southbound calls at Algeciras will provide connections to and from the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Far East and Africa.
