Lufthansa Cargo is significantly expanding its network in the summer flight schedule with the addition of three new destinations - Shenzhen, Kolkata and Barcelona, effective March 27th.
Pending regulatory approval, Lufthansa Cargo will to operate MD-11 freighter services to the three new destinations.
The Leipzig-based Aerologic joint venture will lay on direct connections from the Lufthansa hub in Frankfurt to Houston, Texas, and Lahore in Pakistan.
Due to its status as a Special Economic Zone and its location in the Pearl River Delta, Shenzhen ranks among the most important industrial centres in the world. Lufthansa Cargo is already represented in Shenzhen through its stake in the locally based Jade Cargo International.
From March 27th, Lufthansa freighters will serve Shenzhen three times a week, with the return flights linking at the Lufthansa hub in Frankfurt into direct connecting flights to Barcelona in Spain.
To accommodate the demand for capacity from China to Spain, particularly for the textile industry, Jade Cargo International will continue to operate the route with twice-weekly Boeing 747 freighter services.
The new services to Kolkata will further strengthen Lufthansa's Asian network, with the twice-weekly connections ex Frankfurt increasing the number of destinations in India served by Lufthansa freighters to six.
The Aerologic joint venture is further improving connections between Frankfurt and the American south with its Boeing 777F freighters. A direct flight on Saturdays between Frankfurt and Houston is now available to Lufthansa Cargo customers. Aerologic's route network will be further expanded with weekly flights from Frankfurt to Lahore in northern Pakistan.
