OOCL christened its newest ship the OOCL Beijing in ceremonies Thursday at Hungdong -Zhonghua Shipbuilding in Shanghai.
The OOCL Beijing is the first in a new series of eight container ships with capacities of 8,888 20-foot-equivalent units apiece, ordered from Hungdong -Zhonghua.
OOCL ordered six new 13,000-TEU ships in March from Samsung Heavy Industries.
The OOCL Beijing is 1,099 feet long by 140 feet wide with the deadweight of approximately 100,400 metric tons.
It will be deployed on the intra-Asia MAX service with a 42-day round-trip port rotation of Shanghai, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Shekou, Singapore, Jebel Ali, Damman, Bandar Abbas, Port Kelang, Singapore, Hong Kong and back to Shanghai.
