HONG KONG's OOCL, the world's 11th largest carrier, has announced it will raise the freight rates by US$200 per TEU and US$300 per FEU for eastbound cargo from Europe to Asia effective April 1.
Seperatedly, OOCL also has announced it will raise the freight rates by US$200 per TEU for shipments from southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indian subcontinent and Middle East) to Australia with effect from April 1.
OOCL said the proposed increase is necessary because "ocean freight rates continue to be below the required level to cover basic operating costs or transportation costs in our Europe to Asia services".
