Hapag-Lloyd is postpoining by a month the implementation of the general rate increase it planned to apply Oct. 1 on shipments from Canada to destinations in the Indian subcontinent.
The GRI on dry and refrigerated cargo will now take effect Nov. 1, the German carrier said. The increases will be $140 per 20-foot and $175 per 40-foot dry container, and $220 and $275, respectively, per reefer container.
The subcontinent region includes ports in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Hapag-Lloyd, one of the largest liner operators to and from India, did not provide any reason why it had postponed the date of the GRI.
