The ocean carrier Maersk Line has added a 12th vessel to its weekly Asia-West Africa FEW2 service and increased round-trip voyage time from 77 days to 84 days.
Transit times northbound from West Africa to Asia on the FEW2 have increased significantly as vessels slow steam in 25 days between Walvis Bay, Namibia and Maersk’s regional mega-hub in Tanjung Pelepas. Southbound the transit is 16 days.
The rotation of the FEW2 remains Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Nansha, Tanjung Pelepas, Walvis Bay, Apapa, Tema, Walvis Bay, Tanjung Pelepas, Xiamen, Fuqing, and Busan. The service currently operates with 10 vessels from Maersk and two from subsidiary Safmarine, with an average capacity of 4,400 TEUs.
The FEW2 is one of three Maersk and Safmarine services that connect Asia directly with West Africa. The others are its FEW1, which calls at Lome and Cotonou as opposed to Walvis Bay, Apapa, and Tema; and the FEW3, which calls at Pointe Noire, Onne, and Lagos to/from Southeast Asia exclusively.
