Air China Cargo has launched freighter services that will connect the central cities of Chengdu and Chongqing with Europe's Amsterdam Schiphol gateway. The Chengdu service will be operated twice a week leaving on Fridays and Sundays and using a Boeing 747-400 freighter. It will connect Shanghai and Amsterdam via Chengdu and return to Shanghai via Tianjin.
From September 8, the service will be increased to five times a week and every Tuesday and Saturday a freighter will fly from Shanghai to Amsterdam via Chongqing before returning through Tianjin.
Air China Cargo's executive vice-president Diao Zhihui said the new route would provide Chongqing and Chengdu with additional freighter capacity and improve the speed of the transportation of goods that would support the industrial development of China's western regions.
