Liner carrier Maersk said it will further slow ships on the eastbound legs of its AE1 service.
In its Weekly Highlights newsletter the company says the service "will further slow steam from North Europe to Far East in order to reduce bunker cost."
"The total transit time from North Europe to Japan will be unchanged, but the speed will be evened out, resulting in a five days longer transit time to Singapore and Colombo," the carrier said.
The change will be effective with the sailing of Maersk Stepnica, estimated to depart Bremerhaven on Dec. 31.
