Orient Overseas Container Line has announced that it will implement a “Port Congestion Surcharge” in the event of an International Longshoremen’s Association strike, to prepare for the possibility that ports on the East and Gulf Coast will be shut down on Dec. 29.
In the event of a strike, for all inbound cargo received in the U.S. on or after Dec. 29, the surcharge will be $800 per 20-foot-equivalent unit; $1,000 per 40-foot-equivalent unit and $1,265 per 45-foot-equivalent unit.
There will also be a TAG booking cancellation fee of $100 per container for customers canceling a total of five or more containers within three working days of cutoff on any vessel.
