CMA CGM's Delmas unit is to stop its north Europe-West Africa ro-ro container service in June because of the loss of a military contract, reports Alphaliner.
The carrier was to replace its four ageing 22,000-dwt conro ships with six conro newbuildings on order with Hyundai Mipo. These vessels are purpose-built to allow containers to be stowed on deck and below, said the report.
The conro service calls at Antwerp, Pointe Noire, Port Gentil, Libreville, Douala, Port Gentil, Abidjan, San Pedro, La Pallice, Rouen and returns to Antwerp.
It will continue to move containers using the weekly PC Sud feeder service which connects the Tangier hub from May 17, to Pointe Noire, Port Gentil and Libreville. This will allow for connections to north Europe and Med ports through other CMA-Delmas services.
