TAIWAN's Evergreen Marine will deploy two of its newly built 8,452-TEU vessels on Asia-Europe service in late April after receiving them from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries Co, reported Focus Taiwan News.
Named Ever Liven and Ever Logic, the two new ships are part of the 20 L-Type newbuildings ordered in 2010.
Evergreen has been very eager to expand its container fleet to capture more market share in the past few years. It is now the fourth largest ocean carrier, according to Alphaliner Top 100 League, possessing 182 vessels with an aggregate capacity of 720,000 TEU.
Samsung Heavy Industries has delivered nine L-Type vessels to Evergreen since 2011. Plus the delivery of these two new ships, the Korean shipbuilder will deliver another four units later.
Besides ordering from South Korea, Evergreen also placed orders of 10 L-Type ships from Taiwanese shipbuilder CSCB Corp in 2011. Evergreen said CSBC will begin delivering its vessels later this year.
