Cargo Direct From Mexico City With New Lufthansa Service to DFW International Airport

10/29/2007 10:00:29 AM

DFW International Airport has added Mexico City to its list of international cargo destinations on Lufthansa Cargo as well as a fourth weekly freighter flight to Frankfurt, Germany. The new service will add direct Mexico City service on two weekly flights aboard Lufthansa in January 2008.

“Direct service to and from Mexico City on Lufthansa Cargo strengthens DFW’s cargo business,” said Joe Lopano, DFW’s executive vice president of marketing and terminal management. “The very strong North Texas economy is fueling the market, and robust cargo growth is bringing DFW more international service and opportunities for expansion.”

Lufthansa Cargo has seen a more than 22 percent growth in their cargo tonnage during the first eight months of 2007 compared with its 2006. In addition to the new flight to begin in January, Lufthansa Cargo added a third flight in April 2007. The continuing market strength is due in part to steady economic growth in North Texas, which is now home to 24 Fortune 500 companies.

“Lufthansa Cargo’s growth at DFW expands on its ability to offer great service to locations around the world,” said Bill Frainey, DFW’s assistant vice president of marketing. “This new flight offers shippers the chance to make a direct connection to Mexico and easy connections farther south as well as to Lufthansa Cargo’s hub in Frankfurt and nearly 200 destinations around the world.”

Lufthansa Cargo will fly the two non-stop routes between Frankfurt and DFW continuing on to Mexico City before returning to DFW and on to Frankfurt as well as two flights from Frankfurt to DFW and back. All flights will be operating on MD-11F freighters with a capacity of approximately 85 tons.
