DAMCO, Maersk's freight forwarder, celebrated its first anniversary as a global forwarder yesterday.
In Vietnam, Damco's revenues increased by 54% and its client base grew by 24% in the first year of business.
Sandeep Choudhary, General Manager of Damco in Vietnam, said, “It has been a great start for Damco in Vietnam, having experienced significant growth in the past year, propelled by increased business activities in industries such as manufactured goods from industries, agricultural products, apparel, footwear, and increasingly high-tech goods. The outlook for freight forwarding industry in Vietnam remains optimistic as the country continues to experience economic growth, driven by sourcing demand from United States, Europe and Oceania.
Also in this anniversary, Damco announced the donation of two new classrooms to the Hoa Mai orphanage in Dong Nai, along with assistance from the Damco team through the construction process and the contribution of around 50 Damco employees, who all donated blood to the Red Cross of Vietnam on 4th of July.
The company was established in 2007 through the merger between Dutch freight forwarding company Damco Sea and Air and the forwarding activities of Denmark-based DSL Star Express.
Damco works with major ocean carriers and airlines, local landside service providers and a broad range of global service providers to provide personalised and flexible services to customers.
In 2007, Damco shipped 621,000 TEU, a company statement said, and air freighted 62,000 tons of cargo and employs 3,900 staff in 200 offices in more than 100 countries.
