The newly reconstituted 10-member board of Karachi Port Trust is debating the feasibility of the US$1.6 billion Pakistan Deep Water Container Port, Business Recorder reported.
The board feels that the project, designed to be a transhipment hub catering to 6th and 7th generation container ships, lacks a proper hydraulic study.
The project would involve dredging and reclamation of volumes of more than 34 million cubic meters of water, the construction of 10 deep draught berths of 18 meter depth with 5,000 meters of quay wall.
