DB Schenker now transports containers by rail for the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), working with the company's agent, Escombe Lambert.
The modal shift from road to rail sees DB Schenker move the intermodal containers on trains to and from the Port of Felixstowe to inland terminals at Birmingham (BIFT) and Wakefield.
Both companies are exploring further opportunities to increase the volume of containers moved by rail.
SCI owns and operates about 35% of India's tonnage.
According to Rick Alphonso, general manager of Escombe Lambert, SCI has added a third vessel to its India Subcontinent-to-Europe service, which will increase the number of units in and out of Felixstowe and provide the platform to increase future rail movements.
