Capacity boost for Singapore Airlines

12/26/2009 10:12:33 AM

Singapore Airlines (SIA) is to boost belly freight capacity from early 2010 in response to an upturn in demand.

The carrier says November was its best month for cargo in 2009, with freight traffic down 3.2 per cent from the year before, the narrowest year-over-year decline since 2008.

November's freight traffic also was up 2.6 per cent compared to October.  SIA also is to suspend passenger flights to Pakistan and to Nanjing, China as part of an overhaul of its network.

New passenger flights in Q1 2010 will include five weekly flights from Singapore to Munich, Germany, add two more flights to the five-times-weekly services to Newark, USA and add two additional weekly flights to Manchester in the United Kingdom.
